Author: Charles Edward Jefferson
About the Product:
This book was first published in 1908 and contained 26 lectures given by Mr. Jefferson at the Broadway Tabernacle in New York City. The series of Discourses were begun in 1907 and completed in 1908 and had occasioned much favorable response.
Part of the book's charm is that, while each lecture had undergone some revision for book publication, such revisions were kept relatively insignificant and the flavor of the very talented speaker remains for the reader to savor.
The author is concerned not about the outward trappings of Jesus, but much more about his heart. He talks extensively of his character, not just his personality. He presents convincing evidence that a knowledge of the character of Jesus will bring us much closer to Him.
Included among the 25 chapters are such facets of the Master's character as His Strength, His Sincerity, His Reasonable-ness, Trust, Chivalry, Generosity, Enthusiasm, Indignation, H is Holiness and His Greatness.
Mr. Jefferson discusses clearly, in easily understood and warmly affectionate language, each of these aspects. He notes that '' ... The New Testament was written by men who were determined that we should fix our eyes on the Man. They wish us to catch the beat of his, heart, the swing of his mind, the· orbit ·of his ideas. Everything is minimized and subordinated to that which is central and all important, the texture of his spirit and the attitude of his personality. With one accord they cry, 'Behold the Man!'''
Each chapter is a gem in itself. It makes for fascinating reading and achieves its objective: the reader surely becomes closer to the Master. We feel that we know Him. better.
