Since the time of Adam, faithful members of the Lord's Church have been permitted in various dispensations of time to either prolong their existence upon this earth, free from any physical suffering, or to be taken into heavenly realms without immediately tasting death. In a term familiar to Latter-day Saints, these people are said to have been "translated."
