Each of us must find our own way to Christ. Our weakness are different, the experiences that shape and mold our discipleship might have the opposite effect, or may not effect some of us at all. It doesn't matter that the paths we travel to Christ are not the same even if we are united as friends, or family, or husband or wife. What we share is not an identical path but the desire to reach the same goal. In the fifth chapter of Matthew, we have the words of the Savior's first recorded sermon. It is referred to by Christians everywhere as the Sermon on the Mount. It begins with what we call the beatitudes the first recorded words of the Savior's mortal ministry. The beatitudes in their simplicity are complex almost beyond belief. But there is one message that shines through them all: that there is not one single path to Christ, and that His gospel is broad enough and deep enough to contemplate the salvation of all mankind, every one of us, both rich and poor, whole and infirm, members and non-members, in both our righteousness and our imperfections.
