About the Product:

A person's stature is measured not on~ in terms of feet and inches but also in terms of character and integrity. Shawn Bradley, returned LDS missionary and newly recruited center for the Philadelphia 7 6ers, stands tall by both measurements. Here is the inside story of Shawn's remarkable athletic career so for as well as a full and lively recounting of his life to this point.

Though only twenty inches long when he was born, Shawn eventually grew to a height of 7' 6". Here he relates what it was like growing up looking "like a giant daddy longlegs spider." As he recalls, "I was teased at times about being so tall and skinny, but I didn't mind. My folks had always taught me to stand up straight and be proud of my height, and that mentality sort of stuck with me." That mentality helped him achieve both in athletics and academics throughout his youth, and readers will enjoy the exciting accounts of many of those accomplishments. In addition, candid answers are here provided to some of the most frequently asked questions about Shawn's life: What was it that finally made Shawn decide to serve a full-time mission for the Church, despite how it might affect his basketball career? How did he arrive at the decision to go directly into the NBA rather than return to college basketball? With all the publicity his activities often generate, how does Shawn keep focused and not let the hype distract him? Particularly interesting is the chapter "What I'm All About" in which Shawn discusses his deepest convictions, the convictions that have helped him set goals and make important decisions in his life.

At 7' 6", Shown Bradley unavoidably stands out in a crowd, but his commitment to his faith, to his family, and to helping others also sets him apart from many in the sports world. As his former junior high school principal o~ serves (and as this book demonstrates), "Shown is as tall spiritually as he is physically."
