This book is a treasure - obviously written with a love of the Utah pioneers and the sacrifices they made as they poured in from England and various places in this country. This book is filled with stories that bring tears to the eyes and a bright awareness of the unique mission of these people. This is clearly a worthy book for all Church members to read, and others who want to know about a people unjustly thrust from among their fellow citizens due to their religious beliefs, and feel spiritually uplifted thereby. I bought it to give as a gift for my father-in-law as Father's Day approaches and it happens to be filled with references to his pioneer ancestors, specifically George Q. Cannon and his sister Mary Alice Cannon, and her husband Charles Lambert, and this is an added bonus, but truly so many personal stories are revealed in this book that I have not personally read or heard about prior to reading this and that is a real treasure for me, a convert to the Church. The information about the handcart pioneers was of especial interest since I recently saw the movie "Ephraim's Rescue" and I wanted to know more about their experiences. Frankly, tears ran down my face as I read of their struggles and sacrifice - the ground these saints walked upon is truly sacred.
