Product Description:

Here is a book which demands attention!

First, because it combines the thoughts and feelings of twelve scholars, all of whom hold doctors degrees, and whose opinions deserve consideration.

Secondly, because it comes to grips with the great issues of the day such as environment, peace, love, the nature of man, and the relevance of God's word.

Thirdly, because it pays tribute to the life of a great man who had a profound influence on all twelve of the scholars who have contributed their best to this volume.

This book actually began at a funeral service. The services were for Dr. B. West Belnap, who before his untimely death had been dean of the College of Religious Instruction at Brigham Young University.

At the services, President Harold b. Lee, then of the Council of the Twelve, challenged the colleagues of Dr. Belnap, to reach out and teach more than intellectual or physical things. He challenged them to reach the souls of men through the spirit.

From the impressions of this service came the feeling that an effort should be made, in tribute to Dr. Belnap, to testify of the things of the spirit, and try to communicate truths ''with an eye single to the glory of God."

Coordination of the effort was undertaken by Dr. Truman G. Madsen, who also became a contributor, and Dr. Charles D. Tate, Jr., editor of the Brigham Young University Studies.

Those who have contributed to the book include Hugh Nibley, C. Terry Warner, Reed H. Bradford, Dr. Madsen, Neal A. Maxwell, David H. Yarn, Jr., Chauncey C. Riddle, Robert K. Thomas, Leonard J. Arrington, Martin B. Hickman, Richard L. Anderson, and Monte S. Nyman.

Each of these names stands for gospel scholarship, literary, educational, or scientific leadership, and each man has earned a special significance in his chosen field.

That twelve such men should join together in such an effort speaks well for the educational institution they represent, and for the gospel of Jesus Christ in which they firmly believe.

The publishers are proud to offer this volume, knowing that the messages truly speak "to the glory of God," and that the effects of these essays will be felt for good among many people for many years to come.
